what is give me the words?

A community project sharing the gift of compassion, hope and joy.

The Newman Center Music Ministry at the University of Washington is putting on a benefit concert to raise funds for the English Program of Safe Passage (Camino Seguro) in Guatemala City.

Safe Passage is an organization dedicated to empowering the poorest at-risk children of families living and working in the community of the Guatemala City garbage dump, by creating opportunities and fostering dignity through the power of education. The newly created English Program will further the educational goals of Camino Seguro - a powerful tool in ending poverty. English competency has a direct impact on the children’s future success. Armed with fluency in English, the children have an excellent chance at breaking the cycle of generational poverty - speaking to a brighter future for themselves and their families, if we would just give them the words.

The critical funds that we will raise through the concert will provide, for the first time, new English textbooks and workbooks to these wonderful children. The funds will also provide opportunities for educational excursions, salaries for teachers and staff, as well as program supplies and other teaching materials.
